A claim is a plot of land where nobody can break, place or open anything without your permission. Outside a claim, builds aren’t protected: they can be broken and chests opened, and that’s not against the rules. Built something? Claim it.
How to claim
- Take a golden shovel.
- Right-click one corner of the plot, then the opposite corner. Your claim is ready.
- To check whose plot it is — a stick, right-click a block.
- A plot needs at least 100 blocks of area and has to be at least 5 blocks wide (for example, 10×10 or 5×20).
- A claim goes down to 5 blocks below its lowest point and up to the sky.
- One claim per player. Need more? Drag its corners with the golden shovel. Give friends space inside your
claim (
/trust).
Where you can and can’t claim
You can claim only in the Overworld, in the ++ and −+ quadrants (Z greater than 0), more than 500 blocks from the center.
| Where | Claims |
|---|---|
| ++ and −+ more than 500 blocks from the center | allowed |
| Within 500 blocks of the center (spawn) | not allowed — the paths around spawn belong to everyone, but you can build |
| +− (PvP zone) | not allowed — a claim would be a hideout from fights |
| −− (apocalypse) | not allowed — no hiding out here |
| The Nether and the End | not allowed |
Old claims made before these rules were introduced stay in place.
Where claim blocks come from
- Everyone starts with 100 blocks — exactly a 10×10 plot.
- +50 blocks for every hour in the game, up to 5,000.
- +25 blocks for 10 points in the
/votevoting shop — no limit. More in voting. - Blocks aren’t spent forever: delete or shrink a claim and you get them all back.
What a claim protects
- Blocks: only the owner and the people they allow can break and place them.
- Chests, barrels, furnaces and other storage.
- Buttons, levers, gates and other mechanisms (doors and trapdoors can be opened).
- Animals and horses.
- Trading with villagers inside the claim.
- Players: there’s no PvP in a claim — nobody can hurt anybody, even in a duel.
- Inside someone else’s claim, without access you can’t set a home point with
/sethomeor arrive by ender pearl. - Explosions inside a claim don’t break blocks.
Commands
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/trust <nick> | let a player build and open everything in your claim |
/containertrust <nick> | allow only chests, animals and mechanisms |
/accesstrust <nick> | allow only buttons, beds and levers |
/untrust <nick> | remove access |
/trustlist | who has access to the claim you’re standing in |
/claimslist | your claims and how many blocks you have left |
/abandonclaim | delete the claim you’re standing in (you get the blocks back) |
/subdivideclaims | subdivision mode: a plot inside a claim with its own permissions |
If you’re away for a long time
If you don’t log in for 60 days, your claim is removed. Your builds stay where they are (but without protection), and your claim blocks don’t disappear either.
